Sometimes an additional incision under the chin is made if we witness particularly distinct saggy neck muscle (platysma muscle).

After the operation, the face can be completely swollen for two to three weeks; however, the swelling begins to tone down after 48 hours.
Bruises can be present anywhere in the operative area and are gone after one or two weeks. Lost sense of touch can be present in front and behind the ears, under the eyes and on the forehead. Within weeks or months, sense is regained. The pain during the pressure can be present for a few weeks around the ears. The feeling of tightness, pressure and can last for some time around the ears and on the neck, and it reaches its summit in the third week. The stitches are removed within one or two weeks. A few days after the operation you are able to wash your hair. Make-up can be used a few days after the operation.
The post-operative recovery time varies as each organism reacts differently to the procedure. Your appearance will be satisfactory in two weeks.
Recovery lasts for a few weeks.
Smoking can prolong the time of wound-healing and can cause the skin around the wounds to sink in (especially behind the ear) since nicotine reduces the blood flow. Therefore, smokers should stop smoking ten days before the procedure and should not start smoking for three weeks after the operation.
