The goal of vasectomy surgery is to permanently prevent a man's ability to conceive.
The procedure, performed under local anesthesia, involves an incision at the base of the scrotum, where the vas deferens is exposed and cut. A piece of the vas deferens is then sent for histopathological analysis. The ends of the vas deferens are thermally treated and tied with stitches, which prevents the passage of sperm into the seminal fluid.
After the operation is completed, the wound is closed with a self-dissolving suture.
Vasectomy is performed on both sides.
After the procedure, we recommend protected intercourse using other contraceptive methods until the spermiogram shows the absence of sperm in the seminal fluid, which is usually between 8 and 10 weeks after the procedure.
The procedure is performed at the request of an individual who wants a reliable contraceptive method.
A vasectomy is permanently irreversible.
The law allows vasectomy for men over 35 years of age, with exceptions for younger men only.
Before the intervention, it is necessary to obtain the approval of the First Level Commission for Artificial Termination of Pregnancy, which deals with requirements for the exercise of the right to make free decisions about the birth of children, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Slovenia.
A vasectomy will not affect your sexual ability or pleasure. Ejaculation will remain the same, only without sperm. Testosterone, which is responsible for male libido, continues to be produced in the testicles after sterilization and does not change.
You should be aware that a vasectomy does not provide protection against sexually transmitted diseases. It is only a form of contraception that prevents pregnancy. If you change partners or are unsure about the health of your partner, we still advise to use a condom to protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
But the advantage is that if you have a permanent partner, she will be able to stop using female forms of pregnancy prevention, such as contraceptive pills, patches, intrauterine device...
Most physical activities, such as playing sports, you can usually start doing it about a week after the procedure. We will give you individual instructions based on your specific situation.
No, a vasectomy should not cause urinary problems. The vas deferens that are cut during the procedure do not affect your ability to urinate or the function of your urethra.
Complications with properly performed sterilization are rare. These include pain, bruising, swelling or infection at the cut site. Rarely, long-lasting pain can also occur. At our clinic, we will give you more detailed information about possible complications and how to prevent them. It is important that you follow the recovery instructions. This will reduce the chance of complications.
After the procedure, "working" spermatozoa will still remain in the seminal system for some time. That is why it takes about 8 to 10 weeks after the procedure or about 20 ejaculations for the seminal fluid to be completely "cleaned". During this period, it is recommended to use other forms of contraception. At Estetika Fabjan, we will check your semen during the bleeding to make sure that the vasectomy was successful.
The price of a vasectomy depends on the specifics of each individual and is determined at the end of the consultation.
