For centuries, scientists have observed that male pattern baldness only develops after puberty and is prevented by castration before puberty, after which hair loss cannot be stopped. The reason for this is that after being exposed to androgenic hormones, the hair follicles become sensitive to these hormones. For a long time, male pattern baldness was believed to be an inherited systemic disease associated with puberty.
This finding, however, contradicted observations from centuries ago, when it was claimed that anyone can lose hair after entering puberty. Today, it is known that the pathophysiological basis of androgenic alopecia is the influence of male hormones on genetically susceptible individuals. Despite the fact that we are talking about male pattern baldness, it is also the most common cause of hair loss in women.
This is a minimally invasive surgical method that, compared to classical methods, shortens recovery and reduces the possibility of complications. The FUE (Follicle Unit Extraction) method is becoming the standard for baldness treatment, but due to its technical complexity, its implementation is slow.
Transplantation of follicles (or hair follicles) is a modern technique of baldness correction. Unlike old methods, individual hair follicles are transplanted, each of which contains 3 to 4 hairs.
A specialized surgeon removes individual hair follicles from the donor area, which is the most hairy area and in most cases is located at the back of the head.
In the next step, the surgeon transfers the grafts to the recipient site. Precise micro-instruments allow precise implantation of the grafts, so the result is natural, as the growth pattern of the transplanted hair is the same as the natural one. This also results in greater hair density.
The procedure is minimally invasive and painless for the patient, recovery is shorter and easier than with other methods of hair transplantation. If the procedure is not very extensive and your job is not too demanding, you can return to work the next day after the procedure.
The goal of hair transplantation is to improve appearance and increase self-confidence, for which it is necessary to precisely define the goals and discuss them with the surgeon.
Candidates must have healthy hair on the sides and back of the head to prepare the transplants, as follicles are taken from these areas and then transplanted to the areas of deficiency. Hair texture, growth direction and hair waviness also affect the result.
There are also limitations to hair transplantation and people with low hair counts are not advised to undergo hair transplantation. Before the intervention, it is necessary to determine the cause of hair loss, the process of hair loss and the genetic load. We assess the number of necessary transplants, hair density, hair color and quality, skin quality and expected further hair loss.
Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia. The local anesthetic is injected into the scalp with the help of an injection and a thin needle, and it begins to work very quickly. The grafts are removed evenly over a large area on the back of the head and above the ears, which does not change the appearance of the scalp.
Then the recipient site is anesthetized, where individual follicles are implanted. The procedure lasts several hours, with a larger number of implants even the whole day. After the procedure, the extraction and receiving sites are slightly bloody and covered with crusts. We cover them with a special gauze that does not stick to the base, and wrap the head.
Pain after the procedure is minimal. There is also minimal swelling, which disappears within a few days, rarely lasting up to three weeks.
The head can be bandaged after two days. In doing so, extreme care must be taken so that the bandage does not pull out the transplanted hair. The head can also be washed with warm water with a gentle stream. It is also allowed to use gentle shampoo in low doses.
Patients also receive written instructions regarding care after the hair transplant procedure.
Transplanted hair falls out within a few days to weeks, which is normal. Within a few months, new hair begins to grow. The final result is evaluated after 12 months.
The price of hair transplantation depends on the specifics of each individual and is determined at the end of the consultation.
