A bodylift, also known as a circumferential abderoplasty, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin is removed around the entire torso. This procedure is most common in people who have lost a significant amount of body weight. The scar created after the procedure runs in a circle around the body - at the front, low on the abdomen, and at the back, between the buttocks and the back. In this procedure, similar to classic abderoplasty, the navel is sewn into a new opening in the skin.
Excess skin can be removed on the following parts of the body:
- on the area of the abdomen, which may include the shaping of the abdominal walls - abderoplasty
- on the abdomen and back area - body lift
- on the upper arm area - arm lifting (brachioplasty)
- on the thigh area - inner, outer or back part of the thigh - thigh lifting (femuroplasty)
With aging, exposure to the sun, pregnancy, weight fluctuations and genetic factors, the skin can lose elasticity, which leads to the appearance of excess skin on the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. With the help of a bodylift, you can get a youthful look again.
You are candidates for a bodylift:
- if you have a significant increase in soft tissues in one or more parts of the body,
- you are in good health and do not have medical conditions that can affect on treatment or increase the risk of surgery,
- individuals who are committed to a healthy lifestyle, which includes proper nutrition and exercise.
Body lift, liposuction and abdominoplasty are aesthetic procedures that have a slightly different purpose and course.
The main difference is that with liposuction we only affect excess fat and do not cut away sagging skin. and that it can also be performed elsewhere on the body, not only on the stomach. Learn more about liposuction. We usually think of it as a milder intervention than abderoplasty and body lift.
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a surgical procedure intended only for the transformation of the abdomen, and with it we deal with both fat and excess skin. During the operation, the incision is made horizontally from side to side, just above the area with pubic hair. It is a more invasive procedure than liposuction. Brachioplasty, which is a lifting of the upper arms (the upper part of the arms), and femuroplasty, which is a lifting of the thighs (legs), are similar procedures.
The body lift is the most extensive procedure of all three, with it we remove excess fat and skin on the area around the torso. Unlike an abdominoplasty, the incision does not go only to the hips, but continues on the back. The procedure is intended for people after substantial weight loss.
Since it is an extensive procedure, it is performed under general anesthesia. This means that you will sleep during the operation and will not feel it.
After the operation we will apply plasters to the treated area over the incisions and put on a compression garment or bandage. This garment or bandages will help your body adjust properly to its new shape. You will need to wear them for a few weeks after the procedure. You may stay in the clinic for one night, and the next day you will be discharged to home care, where you will need to rest for at least 10 days. We recommend that you avoid overexertion during this time and take about three weeks of sick leave.
No, body lift is not intended for direct weight loss. It is recommended that you first lose weight through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery (surgical reduction of the stomach to treat severe obesity). Next, let's focus on excess fat. Excess fat deposits are removed with liposuction. If the skin has good elasticity and can naturally adapt to new body shapes, no additional interventions are necessary. In cases of poor skin elasticity, we recommend a combination of body lifting and liposuction techniques at the consultation.
The results will be very permanent, as long as you properly maintain a healthy lifestyle (regular moderate exercise, eating a variety of foods...).
